Coffee lovers, listen up! These days, there are plenty of ways to enjoy your favorite drink—which means there are lots of ways to make that favorite drink even more delicious.
Take whipped coffee, for example—a combination of foamed milk and espresso that’s just as decadent as it sounds.
The best part? You can use the same coffee beans you already know and love to create—no special ingredients required! Check out the best-whipped coffee recipe we could find, and whip up your very own at home. You’ll never go back to your standard latte ever again!
Begin with Fresh Beans
Like most foods, coffee beans are best consumed when they’re fresh. Look for roasted beans that have roasted on or best-by dates. Avoid bulk bags and instead buy smaller containers at high-end retailers or specialty stores. It’s also a good idea to avoid pre-ground coffee; in addition to losing flavor, it quickly goes stale once exposed to oxygen in the air.
Grind your own at home (it’s easy) and only grind as much as you need for each day so that flavors don’t dissipate over time. To keep your coffee tasting its freshest, store it in an airtight container away from heat and light. The refrigerator is often recommended but be aware that some of those smells can permeate plastic storage containers.
In general, any container should do as long as there is little chance of moisture getting inside. If you prefer to freeze some of your supply, make sure you remove any excess air from the bag before sealing it shut with a tight clip or elastic band. This will prevent moisture from building up inside and causing freezer burn which can ruin both taste and aroma.
Grind the Beans
Freshly ground coffee beans are exponentially more flavorful than their pre-ground counterparts. All you need is a good, reliable grinder that can grind your beans to whatever coarseness you like. Then, when it’s time for a cup of joe, pour a little hot water over your grounds (just enough to wet them), then let them sit for 30 seconds.
After that, use an old-fashioned metal whisk and mix them up until they form a frothy consistency that resembles whipped cream. And be sure to use freshly brewed water—nothing kills fresh-coffee flavor like canned or bottled stuff!
Bring Water to a Boil
Start by bringing a large pot of water to a boil. Add two tablespoons of ground coffee per six ounces of water, and return to a boil. Let sit for one minute (the longer you let it sit, the stronger it gets), then strain into a cup and add almond milk or half-and-half to taste. Since hot coffee can dilute cold milk, you may want to add some ice cubes before pouring it into your cup.
Pour in Filtered Water
If you want your coffee whipped, you’re going to need to pour in filtered water. If you don’t have a filter on hand, pour 4 cups of plain water into a glass jar and allow it to sit out overnight so that most of the chlorine in it evaporates. Once it is fully filtered, add 1⁄2 cup to your recipe. Your homemade coffee will taste much better than what you can buy at your local grocery store and if used regularly might even improve your health!
Add Milk and Sugar
Most coffee recipes call for adding a small amount of milk and sugar at the end of preparation, meaning there’s never really a place to add them in. Instead, you can use your hand mixer to combine both ingredients into your fresh cup of coffee as you pour it from your French press.
This not only means you won’t have to worry about whether or not your brew is piping hot enough, but also that you can make sure you’re getting just enough creaminess and sweetness. While adding these ingredients at the beginning will produce an overly sweet or sugary drink, getting everything in near-perfect harmony at once is a real treat. Just make sure to try it out with plain coffee first; otherwise, you may wind up with something different than what you were aiming for.
Stir it Up
To make a delicious, frothy whipped cream out of your freshly brewed coffee, you only need three ingredients: 1 cup of freshly brewed and cooled coffee, 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. To start, brew an extra-strong batch of coffee, ideally dark roast—this will keep your drink from becoming watery when you add the cream to it.
Add all three ingredients to a food processor or blender (we like using our Vitamix) and blend on high speed until thickened to taste. Pour into a bowl or mason jar and use immediately! It also keeps in your refrigerator for two weeks! Use as topping on pancakes or ice cream—or even on fresh fruit.
Blend Away!
Many people add cream and sugar to their coffee—but you don’t have to. The best way to whip up a healthy cup of coffee is with an immersion blender. Simply drop your favorite ground coffee into a mug, heat up some liquid (like water or almond milk), and blend for about 30 seconds. Give it a taste test and add sweetener as desired. And that’s it! Your morning caffeine fix has never been easier or healthier!
Drink, Drink, Drink!
It’s no secret that coffee is beneficial to health. In fact, a recent study found that coffee drinkers (those who consumed at least four cups of coffee per day) were 18% less likely to die prematurely and 14% less likely to develop heart disease. Aside from its positive effects on heart health, there are plenty of other reasons you should be sipping on some java each morning: A Naturally Soothes Your Mind & Body:
By helping your body maintain stable blood sugar levels and boosting serotonin production, which is linked to improved mood and energy levels, drinking coffee every morning can help your mind stay clear and focused throughout your day.
Conclusion
In summary, there are many different ways of making whipped coffee and if you experiment enough with them you’ll find one that works best for you. Have fun whipping your coffee!
